Character Name: Lilith Sahl
Canon: Trinity Blood (as a note; Lilith is from several centuries before Tres, and so they have never interacted in canon).
Canon Point: On the way to the peace talks with Cain, before she's killed.

Background/History: Trinity Blood - While this is a fair explanation of the canon, because of the canon point of Lilith (Red Mars era), it's harder to find detailed information on. This is because the anime never dealt with the Red Mars era, and that's the most widely documented medium of the series, whereas Lilith is taken primarily from the light novels which the manga is based on. The wikipedia does touch on the Red Mars era, but the article has not been fleshed out well, so I've expanded on the background myself.

Created as one of four advanced clones for the UNASF (United Nations AeroSpace Federation), Lilith was the prototype clone, created to prove that the process could be done, before the 'perfect' clones were made. She's was quite a bit older than the others and often acted as a motherly figure for them.

The scientists pushed their precious clones to work hard, they had to become great leaders and stronger than all the others if they were to survive the harsh conditions of colonising Mars. They were treated as an inferior species, not quite human, and as such they were often just utilised as tools of the country's government they 'belonged' to. Lilith trained as a doctor primarily, though she does possess significant skills in war strategy as well (as proven when she leads the humans against the Returners).

At some point during their time on the colony there was an attempt on Abel's life, which left him stranded on the surface of Mars; Lilith saved him and together they discovered an alien technology which helped create the Ark - now in-operational and referred to as the "vampire moon" in canon. Two strains of nanoscopic machines were also discovered that day; a strain called Bacillus and one called Crusnik. They didn't truly understand Crusnik, it proved resistant to tests and difficult to work with, but the bacillus easily took to the colonists injected with it and gave them a heightened strength, longer life and a host of other skills - these later became known as the Methuselah, or vampires.

Abel and Seth, incited by Cain, lead the new Methuselah (then called the Returners) against the humans in an attempt to wipe them out. They were nearly successful and large parts of the Earth remain uninhabitable after the 'Armageddon', even centuries later. However; Lilith and her closest friend, Elissa, went over to the side of the humans and, using the Vatican church as a base, led the humans to fight back.

The canon from there on out, following the end of the war and the subsequent series, is where the wikipedia article picks up the story properly.

Personality: The main thing to note about Lilith is her immense capacity for love. Even born as she was, a tool of the UNASF, she never became bitter with her lot in life or angry at the situations forced on her. She worked to the best of her ability and gave thanks for every day that she was given as she saw it as a gift to be with the people she loved, no matter what the circumstances. That's not to say she's naive or ignorant to the more troubling aspects of life, and she doesn't subscribe to a blind optimism that things will get better if she just keeps on going. She believes that the bad times are essential too, and are also a gift : "Only with the darkness, can someone truly appreciate the light."

She is patient and calm, and is never seen raising her voice or using her fists to solve a problem. She also tries to see the good in everyone, regardless of what they've done or what they profess to believe. This is a double-edged sword; it gives her the strength to overcome a lot of obstacles and to help people who others have long ago given up on, but it's also a weakness as she can often see goodness where there isn't any left. Going hand in hand with that, is a martyr complex. She'll put herself in the path of danger for most anyone, and even willingly walked to her death (aware the peace talks with Cain were just a sham) in order to end the war.

Lilith uses the church as her base of operations and, while it's not known if she actually believed in God, the message of religion and the church itself are very important to her - even to the extent that at the current canon time, centuries after her death, she is revered as the Holy Madonna. She prefers to preach understanding and peace, rather than violence, but she's not a pacifist. If the situation demands it, and she believes it's the right course of action, she won't hesitate to fight back. She is very sure of her convictions and won't hesitate to act in, what she believes to be, the best interests of the world and the people she cares about. While this is mostly a good thing, it could be a weakness if she acted on a misguided belief.

A lot of these personality traits are demonstrated through canon in the relationship she has with her family; primarily Abel and, to a lesser extent, Seth and Cain. Abel exemplifies her belief in humanity and the goodness inside someone. She never gives up on him, even after he makes himself an enemy of the world, and gives her life to show him the error of his ways. She loves him dearly, and he's certainly her driving motivation in a lot of things. Cain and Seth show her more ruthless side in the cause of the greater good, especially Seth who wasn't possessed by the nanomachines as Cain was. She fought against them whole-heartedly in the war, even though they were family, and it was only shown in canon that she tried to bring Abel back over to her side - Seth and Cain, she seemed to have resigned herself to fighting.

At the end of it all, Lilith is a person who is very sure of herself and her beliefs. She loves humanity, tries to see the good in everyone, and will always try to be understanding.

Abilities/Powers: Lilith is an advanced human clone. While this doesn't bring any special powers with it, it does provide her with an enhanced durability and intelligence. She also has high-level expertise in politics, negotiation, strategy, and medicine.

The meat of her abilities, however, comes from her status as a Crusnik. These are actually sentient nanomachines inside her blood which, when activated and kept sustained on bacillus, provide her with certain powers. Each of the strains of Crusnik have a set of base abilities that they all share, and then one or two that are unique to that particular strain. Lilith's strain, 04, has the unique ability to create a very strong shield which can encircle quite a wide radius and is nearly impenetrable. The abilities that all the Crusnik share are:

- 'Haste' - This is the ability to move at extremely fast speeds so that she appears to flash from place to place within instants.
- 'Blood' - The blood of a Crusnik can devour itself and any victim it lands on. This serves as both an attack method, and of a way to heal wounds.
- 'Wings' - Lilith can grow six blue feathered wings which are capable of flight, they are also extremely strong and can be used to both attack and defend.
- 'Physical changes' - The main change in releasing the power of Crusnik, is that her nails will lengthen almost into talons, and she will grow two long fangs like a vampire.

While these abilities are undoubtedly impressive, they come with some drawbacks as well. They require bacillus to function, if she runs out of bacillus or goes a significant time without drinking any, then Crusnik will weaken. They're also sentient and pretty evil (they want to destroy every world they come across in fire), so constant use of them leads her open to losing her will and becoming a puppet of them - this is what happened to Cain. Finally, without Crusnik released, she is just a human woman who is just as squashy and prone to injury as the next person.

Items/Weapons: Her rosary, a small case of bacillus, and a small field medical kit.

Sample Entry: Post in Paradisa on LJ and small thread in a musebox

Sample Entry Two: The stench of blood was heavy in the air, the bodies of both the Vatican operatives and the Returners littering the decimated shell of what had once been a beautiful town in Albion. The guards that flanked her on both sides blanched, pale and disgusted at the sight, unwilling to move closer.

Not Lilith.

It was without fear that she stepped out, bare feet silently padding down a street slick with blood. Compassion and a deep sadness fell over her face, golden eyes reflecting a sorrow for lives lost, but more than that, a pity for the ones who felt they needed to lash out so violently. Her poor lost family, how her heart ached for the deep pain they felt that had driven them to this. Still so like children, afraid and lost, hiding behind violence against a world she knew they didn't truly hate.

She paused by the body of a child, his mother laying barely three feet away with dead arms outstretched. With a quiet prayer, she scooped the child into her arms and gently placed it back in the arms of the mother. Moving further through the shell of the once prosperous town, rubble and ash crunching softly under her feet, she finally saw what she had come to see. The three of them stood like demi-gods or avenging angels, revelling in the death they had brought on the innocents scattered around them.

So seemingly delighted, and so lost. Her fingers curled around the rosary at her chest and she offered up a fervent prayer for them to find their way, and listen to the truth of their hearts.
